How you can you help us

We are in the very earliest stages of setting up the Patrick Allen Trust. We have not yet developed a clear strategy and timeline. However, there are some areas in which we could use immediate support:

Communications / Social Media presence - We would welcome help from anyone with experience of managing communications and social media.

Fundraising - We would love it if someone could assist us designing and running our fundraising.

Finacial management - We urgently need the support of an experienced treasurer.

The ambitions of PAT locate it in a delicate space connecting autistic individuals and their families, medical and palliative care professionals, bodies involved in the support of autistic communities, researchers involved in the analysis of healthcare inequities, social carers and policy makers. No single body, profession or researcher alone will be able to bring about meaningful change. We therefore would welcome the support of anyone who feels they could contribute to the development of an understanding of the experience of autistic people facing serious and/or life-limiting illness. In particular, we need help in the development of lived experience and evidence based multi-disciplinary training materials. The areas where we could use support include:

Literature reviews/ Research findings/ Critical reviews of policy/ Research agendas / Training materials & checklists/ Lived experience / Case studies in the following areas:

• Health & access inequalities and the autistic community (including a clear differentiation between autistic and learning disabled people)
• Differences in perception and reporting of pain between neurotypical and autistic patients and their impact on treatment, including medication and pain killing.
• The effect of design on the overwhelm faced by seriously ill autistic people.
• Communication guidelines for the delivery of medical information to autistic people.
• Evaluation studies of initiatives designed to improve the treatment of autistic patients.
• Planning and designing autism-informed spaces.
